A withdrawn music producer’s life is disrupted when his son and his protégé both visit unexpectedly.

Gruff, antisocial Len’s peaceful, rural solitude is interrupted when his aspiring musician son, Max, pays him a visit, closely followed by troubled pop star Zoe. As Max, quietly desperate to connect, builds the courage to play his demo to his distant father, Zoe’s own troubles both eclipse and inflame the unspoken issues between them. This is an honest, human portrait of the redemptive power of compassion bolstered by heartfelt, nuanced performances, well- observed humour and understated pathos.

June 6, 2015   Ana   Comments Off on Evan Peters, Juno Temple Drama ‘Safelight’ Sells to ARC Entertainment

Tony Aloupis directed the gritty drama, which co-stars “True Blood” actor Kevin Alejandro

ARC Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to director Tony Aloupis’ gritty drama “Safelight,” which stars Evan Peters, Juno Temple and Kevin Alejandro (“True Blood”), it was announced Thursday by Scott Moesta, the company’s head of acquisitions.

“Safelight” will be released on VOD and in theaters on July 17.

“Safelight” tells the story of three desperate individuals whose paths perilously cross in a dusty desert town. Charles (Peters) is a high school senior with physical challenges; Vicki (Temple) is a troubled runaway turning tricks at a truck stop; and Skid (Alejandro) is her dangerously psychotic pimp, who has a huge chip on his shoulder.

Their lives take a menacing turn when Charles and Vicki embark on a road trip without Skid up the California coast to photograph lighthouses. Skid couldn’t stand the imagined betrayal. Armed with a hunting knife, Skid looks to punish Vicki and the three characters face each other in a violent showdown that will change their lives forever.

“‘Safelight’ is a captivating story of two people who find each other in the midst of their harsh individual adversities,” said Moesta. “This film was extremely well written and directed with strong performances by the entire cast, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to expose this film theatrically and throughout the various channels here in the US and Canada.”

“Safelight” was produced by Aloupis (“Sugar”), Bernie Gewissler (“Chillerama”) and Cory Neal (“Frozen”), and executive produced by Joe Krieg (“Sugar”) and Andrew Mysko (“Hatchet”).

The deal was negotiated by Moesta and Concourse Film Trade, the worldwide sales arm of Matthew Shreder and Andrew Felts, on behalf of the filmmakers. Concourse Film Trade also handled worldwide rights on the film.

Recent ARC Entertainment releases include “Field of Lost Shoes” starring Jason Isaacs, Lauren Holly, Nolan Gould and Luke Benward; “The Barber” starring Scott Glenn and Chris Coy; and “See You in Valhalla” starring Sarah Hyland, Steve Howey, Odeya Rush and Jake McDorman.

June 2, 2015   Ana   Comments Off on Tony Aloupis (director), talks highly anticipated feature ‘Safelight’

Thank you to Daniel Hoyos from ‘I Am Entertainment Magazine’ for sharing, exclusively with us a interview of Tony Aloupis, director of ‘Safelight’ featuring Juno Temple as Vicki.

Director Tony Aloupis, talks exclusively about making the highly anticipated feature Safelight. The film stars renown talent Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Evan Peters (Kick-Ass), Kevin Alejandro (True Blood), Jason Beghe (Californication), and Ariel Winter (Modern Family).

Safelight tells the touching story of a teenage boy and girl as they go on a road trip to photograph lighthouses. Can you tell us where the idea came from?

I used to take a train into Manhattan for writing classes and there was a kid on the same train who had CP. I wondered how he might come to accept his affliction. I liked the idea of young people helping each other believe in themselves. And, the lighthouses added visual and thematic dynamics.

Safelight was shot in the vast California desert. Can you give us some insight into the location scouting for Safelight?

We started in LA and went north until we found lighthouses that we loved. The northern California lighthouses were perfect for the way we wanted to shot the scenes. The furthest north we went was Mendicino.

Rising actress Juno Temple gave a breathtaking lead performance as Vicki. How did you end-up casting Juno?

Our casting agents, Nancy Nayor and Andy Henry, sent the script out to the talent agencies and the response was amazing. Juno came in for an audition and then came back to read with Evan and we decided that she was the one. She had an incredible understanding of the character of Vicki.

Safelight recently screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival back in April. What has been the audience reaction so far?

The audience reaction has been fantastic. People seem to respond to different aspects of the film.

Safelight is a perfect example of how one can tell a beautiful story while, still getting captivating performances. Do you have any advice for our readers who might be looking to choosing screenwriting as a profession?

I think you have to learn the craft and then write as much as possible. Everything you write is important to developing your skills.

Lastly we’ve gotten requests asking where people can view the film. Do you have any more upcoming festival screenings for Safelight?

We have actually just sold the film to a domestic distributor and it looks like we will have a theatrical and digital release very soon!

May 21, 2015   Ana   Comments Off on Ray and Dave Davies to work on soundtrack for Julien Temple Kinks biopic

Julien Temple is directing a biopic about The Kinks, with Ray Davies and Dave Davies working on the soundtrack.

The director of The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle, Glastonbury and Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten will begin shooting the movie later in 2015.

The film, You Really Got Me, is set to star Johnny Flynn as Ray Davies, George Mackay as Dave Davies and Juno Temple as Rasa Davies.

“We’ve got the music rights and Ray and Dave will work on the soundtrack,” says the film’s producer Joe Thomas.

“This is an exciting chance to tell The Kinks story in a visceral and real way,” Julien Temple told ScreenDaily. “The lyrics of The Kinks have always been fascinating to me and there is an amazing human story here as well which has yet to be captured on film.”

The director added: “It’s not easy to find British leading men who can deliver the kind of musically compelling performances we need and we have those in Johnny and George.”

The script for You Really Got Me has been produced by Likely Lads writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.

Sunny Afternoon, a musical based on The Kinks’ music and story, is currently playing in London.
