Just a few days before the U.S. release of Juno Temple and Daniel Radcliffe’s new film Horns (in theaters everywhere this Halloween), we sat down with the wild-haired British actress to chat anti-heroes, awesome jewelry, and whether or not she’d date a guy with horns.

Before I ask Temple (whose cat-eye eyeliner is completely impeccable) which jewelry brands she wore to the U.K. Horns premiere (because I am totally obsessed with it) and whether or not she’d let a guy with horns pick up the dinner bill, I want to know if she thinks Daniel Radcliffe’s character, lg, is a good person or a bad person. “Definitely a good person,” says Temple of her on-screen boyfriend (a guy who wakes up hungover and has horns protruding from his head—been there, sort of). I can’t say her answer is too surprising since the whole plot is basically about Radcliffe’s search for his dead girlfriend’s (played by Temple) killer. Yet, hunt may or may not come a little easier once lg sprouts (along with the horns) a special power to force anyone to unravel their deepest secrets and desires. So yes, I’d imagine his poor murdered girlfriend would think he’s great, even from the grave.

The entire story is all based on Joe Hill’s novel of the same name. Is playing a pre-crafted character, written specifically for a book, different than playing one that was born for the silver screen? “When you’re playing a character from a movie, you’re doing it with the director’s idea of the film,” Temple informs, “You’re always trying to do the book justice and be respectful of it, but also it’s another vision on top of the book. I think it’s important to treat it like any other character in the sense that you’re playing that person and you want to bring them to life in the right way and put everything you’ve got into it. The biggest compliment you can get is if the author of the book tells you did a good job. I was in a film called Atonement and Ian McEwan came up to me and told me I did a good job with the character Lola, and I was like ‘!’”

British actress Juno Temple stars via flashback sequences as Merrin Williams, the murdered girlfriend of Daniel Radcliffe’s tormented Ig Perrish in Alexandre Aja’s supernatural thriller, Horns.
Based on Joe Hill’s novel, Ig wakes after a night of heavy drinking to learn Merrin has been brutally assaulted and murdered. He’s being blamed as her killer. And for some reason, goatlike horns are popping from his forehead.
Temple is a busy actress who has taken on varied roles since her first small part in 2000 period drama Pandaemonium, directed by her father, Julien Temple. She’s done studio dramas including The Other Boleyn Girl and The Three Musketeers as well as edgy indies including Afternoon Delight, where she played a manipulative stripper.
Horns premiered at TIFF 2013, which is when Temple talked to the Star. Horns screens in Cineplex theatres for one night, Oct. 27, then goes to video on demand Oct. 28.
This is her first time working with Radcliffe, although she auditioned for a Harry Potter film: “I don’t remember what the character was (various online sources claim it was Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). It was way back when. I’m glad I waited until now. I really didn’t know him from Harry Potter, I wasn’t a diehard Harry Potter fan. I saw him in (the play) Equus, and I thought that was such a brave performance.”
She and Radcliffe are both 25: “Exactly the same age,” she says, adding she is two days older. “Two days wiser.”
On her character in Horns: “She has a supernatural goodness. I’m playing Ig’s memory of my character. I’m not playing Merrin proper. I’m playing this perfect memory of her, or heartbreaking memory and I love the way they shot me because I do look like a kind of memory.”
On doing onscreen nudity, including a love scene with Radcliffe in Horns: “It’s an interesting thing. There is a moment where that’s scary and then it becomes kind of liberating. It’s just what this character is doing. It’s not my body anymore. It’s other characters’ bodies. I’m very European about that. I grew up with the female body is a beautiful thing and what I love so much about acting is if you have insecurities in your real life about your body, you have to forget them. This is not about you anymore … no one’s going to judge me because I am being somebody else.”

On CGI (she played a computer-generated fairy in Maleficent) versus real-life work: “I absolutely love your real sweat being caught on camera and your hair being caught in your face and if you cry your snot all over yourself, just keep going with it. But it was interesting to learn (to work with CGI).”
On Radcliffe: “It’s so great that (Alexandre Aja) cast Daniel because Daniel is such a hungry actor who is so ready to play amazing roles. The performance he gives is extraordinary.”
Marilyn Monroe is her muse: “My room at home was covered in posters of Marilyn Monroe. She has been a huge inspiration for me. The thing that I find so absolutely bewitching about her was her beauty and animalism and sexuality … and this crazy innocent vulnerability and sometimes deep-rooted sadness on camera. And I’ve always loved her for that. And she was so funny.”

Based on the Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son) novel, Alexandre Aja directs Horns, a film about a man who discovers horns growing from his head, soon after his girlfriend was killed.

Set in small town America is the story of Ig Perrish, who finds horns sprouting from his temples after learning his girlfriend Juno was killed. From being accused of murder, being cursed with horns, to using his demonic powers to discover the truth behind Juno’s death, Horns walks the wire between being a religious comedy and murder mystery, without falling off.

Danielle Radcliff is superb as Ig Perrish, a man mourning the loss of his childhood sweetheart, whilst dealing with the unfortunate occurrence of suddenly looking like the devil. The supporting cast consisting of Juno Temple, Joe Anderson, Kathleen Quinlan, James Remar and David Morse do a terrific cast with the somewhat fluctuating and esoteric script and all manage to bring some grounding to a story that gradually becomes fanciful.

The film itself draws on from a number of elements. Once Ig has developed his horns, initially there are moments of theological humour that follows in the steps of Dogma. As the story develops it takes a darker psychological turn, more in keeping with Donnie Darkie, and even hints of Twin Peaks. With those films focusing purely on one tenor, with Horns trying to juggle both its not surprising then that the film doesn’t quite manage to hit their dizzying heights. But, that doesn’t mean the film fails to deliver, far from it in fact.

Though the film doesn’t quite nail the many concepts and ideas running through it, it does however execute the main plot effectively, with Radcliff once again showing he definitely has the acting chops and screen presence to carry a film on his shoulders.

With a screenplay that commits a host of sins, it Radcliff’s devilishly good performance makes this a hell of a film.

The up-and-coming British actress starred opposite Angelina Jolie in the summer blockbuster “Maleficent” and has a role beside Johnny Depp in the upcoming Whitey Bulger flick, “Black Mass.”
Part of a crop of hot young actresses making a name in Hollywood and the indie film world, the 25-year-old actress was singled out last year by the public, which voted to award her the EE Rising Star BAFTA Award.
“There are some truly extraordinary young women actresses right now, like Jennifer Lawrence, Mia Wasikowska, Elizabeth Olsen,” the Somerset, England-born actress told her “Horns” co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, for the inaugural issue of Heroine magazine. “You watch them and you forget sometimes that you’re even watching them. They are so young but know the craft in such an old way, and I love that so much. So if the job doesn’t go your way, you’re just as excited to see the film anyway.”

But lately, things have been going Temple’s way, like adopting a Boston accent to play opposite Depp.
“Johnny Depp playing Whitey Bulger was just one of the most amazing transitions I’ve ever seen,” she told Radcliffe for Heroine. “He had these crazy contact lenses in his eyes that almost reminded me of lizards, so when you were acting with him you were genuinely quite frightened, but he was lovely, so encouraging.”

She Comes From a Rebel Family
Her father, Julien Temple, a fan of punk music, directed the 1979 Sex Pistols documentary “The Great Rock and Roll Swindle,” as well as videos for The Rolling Stones and The Kinks. Her aunt, Nina Temple, was the last secretary of the British Communist Party, and her grandfather, Langdon Temple, once ran a travel agency specializing in Communist countries.
She Grew Up in a Fairytale House
Temple grew up with her father, mother Amanda Pirie, a producer, and two younger brothers in a 14th century house in Taunton, Somerset.
“As kids, we lived in this magical world and roamed free in the gardens,” she told The Telegraph earlier this year. “I was constantly in fancy dress and in character as a kid.”
No surprise, then, that Temple has a thing for fairies and flipped when she got the chance to play one beside Jolie, even if most of her time on set was spent filming in a “giant white room wearing a wet suit with ping pong balls all over it,” as she told Heroine. “I had all these ink dots all over my face and I was filming with a 10-foot-tall version of Angelina Jolie’s face.”
She Got Started as Child Actress
It’s no surprise, given her childhood, that Temple announced to her parents that she wanted to become an actress. Her first role, at 8, was in one of her father’s films. At age 12, she auditioned and won the role of Cate Blanchett’s sulky teenage daughter in “Notes on a Scandal.” By the time she left boarding school, she had worked on 11 films, and her co-star in “St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fratton’s Gold,” Rupert Everett, helped her write her essay for completing her secondary education.
Though she’s 25, Temple can still look like a child actress.
“I’m still at a stage where sometimes I look 18,” she told Radcliffe. “Some days people tell me I look 14, which is a bit of a shock … and then sometimes I look 25.”
She Prefers Character to Leading Lady Roles
Temple has already been cast in more than 30 film roles, including a 12-year-old girl whose virginity is offered as collateral to Matthew McConaughey’s hit man, a schizophrenic insomniac and a woman who is raped and murdered.
“I usually like to play a woman who’s got s*** going on,” she told The Telegraph. “I’m not sure I ooze leading lady, I’m not the high school catch. I’ve been lucky with characters.”
Her Boyfriend Is a Fellow Actor
Temple lives with her boyfriend, actor Michael Angarano, whom she met on the set of 2012′s “Brass Teapot,” in a 1920s Los Angeles bungalow filled with vintage clothes and British flags. According to The Telegraph, she once collected Angarano from the airport in nothing but underwear, heels and a raincoat.
