A magazine scan & an Instagram pic

Two things from last year: First is an Instagram photo that depicts Juno in mid-transformation for the series ‘Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams’; the second is a scan from a Hungarian weekly magazine, called Nők Lapja (Women’s Paper) about ‘Wonder Wheel’.

Translation for the article:

MOVIE – ‘Wonder Wheel’ – Premiere date: December 7. Only for audiences above 16 years of age! Distributor: Cinetel Kft.

Some say, Woody Allen was afraid that Kate Winslet won’t like his script. He was wrong. The gritty actress happily went for the shooting, which this time took place in New York’s uniquely atmospheric part,  Coney Island, a place, where the same company sells hot dogs since 1916, and the rollercoaster operates since 1927. In Woody Allen’s newest film, four peoples’ lives intertwine and change under the course of a single day. The main cast is made up from the aforementioned ‘Titanic’-actress, alongside Justin Timberlake, Juno Temple, and Jim Belushi, who we all know from the ‘K-9’ movie. It’s obvious, that only something spectacular could come out of this!

Little interesting fact: The Hungarian subtitle literally means “giant wheel”, which is our word for the ferris-wheel.

Juno deserves an Oscar nomination? We sure think so:)

This article has been tweeted to us. In it, the author assembled a list of 19 actors/actresses, whom they think deserve at least a nomination at the Academy Awards, but somehow the people in charge of this always ignore them at the right time. Among the 19, there is Juno, who came under the spotlight because of ‘Wonder Wheel’. Here’s what the article says about her – a little bit spoilerish about the movie, but not very much;)

In Woody Allen’s ‘Wonder Wheel’set in the mid 1950s, Juno Temple plays a comically naive Brooklyn girl who ratted to the FBI about the Mob after she fell out with her gangster husband. The role is a caricature: Allen narrowly avoided writing Carolina as a bimbo, but she is a bright woman who aspires to becoming an English teacher. At the start of the movie, she arrives at her estranged dad’s Coney Island amusement park home terrified because a contract’s been put on her life.

Wearing a permanently stunned look, Carolina tries to pick up the pieces while she’s in hiding and starts going to night school; men flock around her, of course. It says much for Temple’s growing authority as an actress that she renders Caroline poignant and philosophical; she doesn’t chastise herself for falling in love with the wrong guy when she was 20. But she’s one of those people who can’t get out of their own way: the last walk she takes in the film is haunting.

My humble opinion is that her big roles, like in ‘Dirty Girl’, ‘Cracks’, ‘Away’ or even in ‘The Brass Teapot’ deserved the attention, and Allen is not the first world-famous director she worked with (remember Martin Scorsese in ‘Vinyl’?). All of these prove her talent and greatness. I hope one day, she’ll be recognized at the Oscars!

“You’ve gotta be real.” – interview for sbjct

Juno has been featured on the online platform sbjct, as an interesting subject:) The interview featured a lot of great, high quality photos, which were all made public, and that’s a really nice gift for us fans. Here are the pictures, and the interview is following them at the bottom of this post.

British actress Juno Temple stars in Woody Allen’s latest film, ’Wonder Wheel’, out in theatres today. We caught up with the 28-year old ingénue to learn about her acting roots and the lessons she’s taken away from working with some of Hollywood’s greats.

SBJCT You got your first acting gig at the age of ten – that’s pretty impressive!

JUNO TEMPLE Well, yes and no. It was my dad’s film (he’s a director), and actually I got cut from it!

SBJCT I guess it gave you a taste of the business at least!

JT Well, I got my first job independent from my family when I was 15. My parents both work in the industry, and when I told them at age 14 that I wanted to act, I could tell they were thinking “Oh shit, really?” Because it’s hard, especially for women… You’re so judged on your looks, you get told no a lot, spend lonely time in hotels, and I think my parents were worried about how that would affect me. But when the audition for ’Notes On A Scandal’ came my way, they were supportive – they said I should go and see how many other girls wanted to be actresses. So I went, and I waited in line for two hours with my best friend, and all they did was take a picture of me. The next day I got a phone call saying the director wanted me to come in and read for him, and I couldn’t believe it! I was terrified. It was one of those buildings with really thin walls and I could hear the audition before mine.

Two weeks later I was home with my mum, about to go do the shopping, and she came out to the car in tears. Thinking the worst, I asked her what was wrong, and she told me I’d gotten the part! I couldn’t believe it. But that was the start of it all, I guess.

Today is the day of ‘Wonder Wheel’. Less than a month, until we can see Woody Allen’s new movie, starring Juno, so I’ve uploaded all the recently acquired pictures from three events, all related to the promoting of this film. The third is my favourite among these sets.

And here is an interview by GMA News Online, with the four main cast members and the director of ‘Wonder Wheel’. I’ve cut out the pieces that aren’t Juno-related, but the whole interview will be available at the end of the post.

We talked to the award-winning filmmaker and his ‘Wonder Wheel’ cast at the Ritz Carlton in New York. Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake, Jim Belushi and Juno Temple candidly shared their memorable experiences working with Allen among others.

[Woody Allen] On his directorial style for this movie, as Justin Timberlake said he was intimidated by him, Jim Belushi said Allen asked him to act “stupider,” and told Kate Winslet to be less “actress-y”“I hire these people who are very good. Jim, Kate, Justin, and Juno, they are all good actors. We are very careful before we hire. We look at many tapes. We speak to the people. It doesn’t take a great mind, a great casting director, to cast Kate Winslet or Justin Timberlake. So I hire them.

Then I try not to push too much of my own feeling and let them do what it is that they do that makes everybody like them all the time and makes them so exciting to people. I don’t want to be on top of them and say don’t do this and do it this way and this is what I was thinking of. It doesn’t matter what I was thinking of, because very often, they don’t do it the way I was thinking of. It comes out much better, because it’s more natural for them. It’s just better. So I give the stupidest directions, ‘faster,’ ‘louder,’ ‘better.’ But you don’t have to direct these people. You just have to hire them, not supervise them too much and get in their way.

Once in a while, you do have to tell them, can you speak a little faster? Or, can you walk across the room a little more languidly? But generally speaking, I keep to myself.”

[Kate Winslet] On working with Woody Allen and his process: “It’s really funny because working with Woody and working alongside Jim, Juno and Justin who were all terrified, somehow I felt a little bit like the inflight crew on a plane. You don’t panic when there’s bad turbulence or everybody will start to panic.

If they all see that I’m also terrified then it’ll have this trickle effect. Especially for Juno who I just completely adore and she actually reminded me of myself when I was a younger actress and the fear, the nerves and the feeling of being self-conscious in front of people you admire. I immediately took her by the hand and I said I am going to look after you.

Sometimes, he would just get up in the middle of a scene which we all think is going really rather well and he would shuffle in and he would say ‘no, we have to stop.  Oh, God, I’m just so bored. I want to go home. I am just dying watching you. I want to go home and have dinner.’

For Juno, this would have been a terrible thing for her to hear but I would actually find this funny. I think school of hard knocks. I’m an old lady now. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I can handle it. I don’t mind the honesty as long as someone’s not mean which he never ever is.

[Juno Temple] On working with Justin Timberlake and if she ever wished she had a kissing scene with him: “I know (laughs). Kate got lucky. (Laughs) I’ve not seen him perform as of yet. Hopefully, I will one day.

“Working with him was amazing. He’s such a giving actor and was also so open to running lines and talking scenes through, as was Kate and Jim. I thought we were all in this position of being quite nervous and really wanting to be on our A game with each scene, with each moment.

“I found Justin an incredibly giving actor to work with on camera. He’s just in the scene so profoundly with you, which I think is so amazing when you forget when you’re shooting something, which I also felt that with Kate too. They had this incredible energy about them. They were in high spirits always which was lovely.

“I had an amazing time working with these actors who are really brave, really giving people that I’m very thankful I got to work with. I’d work with each one of them again in a heartbeat.”
